What is agitation in coffee brewing? How should you extract it more?
What are agitation and brewing?
Just imagine the scenario: Close your eyes and imagine you are in a plane. Suddenly, turbulence hits you and there is extreme shaking. Once it is over everything will be normal. Initially, it might sound funny but turbulence is a part of brewing your favorite cup of coffee.
You can consider it like this, turbulence = movement and agitation = distribution. It is going to make the extraction of coffee much easier and make the extraction consistent.
Extraction is even and perfect!
While you do the brewing, make sure that you keep the flavors correct and use the best one. In the entire process, extraction plays an important role. When you ground the coffee evenly it will get exposed to water and the extraction rate will be higher. When everything is hit to the spot, the brew will be correctly balanced.
Make sure that you select the right grind size for the brew, the coffee particles are right. During the entire process, there will be smaller and larger particles. Different particles will bring in 2 challenges which include:
- Extraction is different which means bitterness, sweetness, and acidity will be well-balanced.
- The entire process can create a method known as channeling which makes it easier for the water to flow through the coffee bed. This way it will be difficult to make the coffee extracted in the right manner.
In case, extraction is not done correctly, then it will be difficult to control the flavors. In this case, agitation is what you need.
What are the important roles in brewing?
Extraction has different methods with it which allow everything to come together. There is brewing time, grind level, method and device, filter choice, pouring style, water quality, and water temperature is the extraction method. Most importantly, the freshness of the coffee will be maintained which makes you enjoy every sip you take.
How can I agitate coffee?
- First of all, comes the blooming which occurs with agitation on its own. Once that is done the coffee grounds will become more even and dry pockets get wet. You can stir the coffee once the blooming is done.
- During the pour, you should start the agitation to keep the brew correctly balanced. In-between stirring and swirling you can get it done. Heaviness might affect the extraction method.
Should I try it?
Well! Make sure that you give this option a try. If you do so, agitation will make the brewing much better. You can experiment at home if you want. If you do not have enough time, then you should visit your nearby coffee shop and it will make you enjoy your coffee brew.
